Waterbeds

(Delayed post because of failed migration to new Web site.

Tip: do not attempt to emigrate both blog and family simultaneously.)

…….

As I mentioned previously, on the third night in Jamaica, we were flooded out of our hotel.

It was the fault of Hurricane Wilma, who had teetered back and forth over the Cayman Islands like a wobbly child

If you go down to Spanish Town

Missed my first blogiversary. Never mind. Way too busy with getting the house ready, transfering the utilities, buying a car, buying a stove, washer and dryer, juggling finances across four countries … good news is that we may have our stuff through customs by the weekend and we won’t need to sleep on the floor (the

  • Hate B.A. (Bastard Airlines) but love Schiphol airport. Used to fly that way from being the Middle East when all the kidnappings and bombs were happening and to this day, I still maintain that I felt safer in Saudi Arabia – day-to-day – that I ever did in England. I hope you get on very well with Kingston. Walk with your head held high and a bolshy, confident step and they’ll leave you alone, trust me.

Loving the photo of the billboard :-)

  • vit

that billboard is about to be copied (by me) all over portugal

  • Love the billboard.

Security briefings are meant to put the wind up you, I’m sure – ours was a pretty unsettling. For weeks I was convinced that I was going to be followed around town by knife-wielding pick-pockets, burgled nightly, and abducted by evil taxi drivers for unspeakable purposes.

Kingston does sound a little more… ‘lively’ than Windhoek though.

Keep safe, and keep us posted!

  • Very nice billboard. It must be neat there, despite the scares. I hope everything goes well and all.

    Here via Michele’s.

  • I hope the weather and the scenery make up for the violence!

    Hey Ria,

Gotta love that billboard, thank you for sharing. And I’m sure Kingston will grow on you. Hang in there and keep blogging, always a joy to read.

  • Happy Belated Blogiversary. Love the billboard, and Desmond Dekker – saw him live earlier this year, what a terrific gig that was. The situation there sounds dire. Hope you stay safe.

happy belated. Here via Michele’s, are you from Friesland???? Otto fan?

  • Ria

We stayed in Friesland for ten weeks in between moving from Rome to Kingston (my in-laws live there).

    Otto who?

  • Sounds scary but I love your eternal cheerfulness.
Thanks for sharing all the lovely photos..and great billboard..

  • Half Swede

You are an expert mover, well done. Best of luck as you settle in and stay safe. Happy blogiversary!

  • Luuk

Hope you are settling in nicely.

  • [...] Another shooting, another riot, another curfew in Spanish Town, Jamaica’s former capital city, situated some ten miles west of Kingston. The town exploded in violence again yesterday following the assassination of Andrew “Bun Man” Hope, leader of the One Order gang. The leader of rival gang, Donovan “Bulbie” Bennett of the Clansmen, was killed by police last October (see post). [...]
