When done properly, the day-to-day use of a versioning system is completely transparent (stuff gets checked-in on the versioning server, each time the application saves a new version) and will not only save your ass if any such problem ever occurs again, but also brings all sorts of advantages (such as universal access from places connected to the net, which is pretty much everywhere nowadays)... 
Versioning: not just for code after all!</description>
